Studies in Narrative Space
This series of academic projects represents a laboratory for narrative space—where the emotional tension of theater meets the logic of immersive experience within built forms. Developed during my studies, these unbuilt proposals investigate the intersection of scenic design, spatial storytelling, and interior environments. Each project traces a full design journey: from research and conceptual ideation to visual representation. Together, they form the foundational language of my practice and a platform for imagined futures.
01
equus
Adapted from the script of Equus. This project uses immersive theatre to draw audiences away from digital distractions and into real-world stories and emotions. Set in a rural Chinese hospital during the 1980s–90s, Equus explores how both homosexuality and internet addiction were once labeled as illnesses. Through the tragic consequences of forced "treatment," the piece aims to raise awareness of minority groups and the importance of individual dignity.
02
m.butterfly
This project explores societal prejudice through the tragic story of Gallimard, a French diplomat whose misunderstanding of Chinese culture leads to his downfall. The immersive stage places the audience in an unfamiliar environment, where they meet a beautiful stranger and share a common language. Based on the 1993 film M. Butterfly (a U.S./Canadian co-production).
